March 17 Ethics
真正是shame on you.
真的是这样的么?of course not.
然后引发众怒后只会说,our lawyers told us to do so。what is the responsibilities? Who own the decisions? Unfortunately, in corporate america, NOBODY will claim themselves as decision makers or take the ownership。
However, again, it is not true。
Too much whining.
新政后的unemployment低,GDP增长高,可是“Unemployment was still high in 1939, with the tide only turning in 1941 when the U.S. entered into World War II“(摘自wiki),而且战争属于非常时期,经济不能和平常时候做简单比较。
城里大多数服务行业,比如餐馆酒吧之类,都是依仗banking和financial service的惠顾的,我们这边不能keep up with the mass layoff in wall street, 那边的main street的店面因此而关门了。
Obama说what a shameful thing。
这个新的800billion dollar的stimulus package,引用某commentary说,更像"a long time wishlist from the liberal democratic",至于对经济又没有刺激作用,这个老早就不在议题之内。
WalMart CEO retireLong long time ago, I was interviewed for a position in one of the biggest retail companies. No, it was not WalMart, but it was pretty close. It was in Shanghai. The position's name was merchandize analyst (or something close). I was interviewed by a guy who was in his mid-30's (just the age as I am now). I believe he liked my background, but he then said, I do not think this job will make you satisfied, you are overquarlifed.
Looking back, of course I have no clue if he said so being polite or he just believed that I would not stay for a long time. Anyhow, I am happy he did so. I do not think I will be happy with the retail industry, especially playing with the numbers, inventory turnover, counting the # of suppliers. Nevertheless, I could still have become a good fit there, and become a star there, who knows.
Being so closely related to the economy ups & downs and still keeping abreast of the minute nusance of the details are what touch me when I listened to the news of the WalMart CEO Lee Scott retired from the company after 30-years tenure, among which 9-year as the CEO. When I listend to NPR this morning, I was very surprised with the compliments that NPR gave to this person. He appears low-key from the external perspective, but I am sure he is a great executive who successfully changed the culture and the public image of the company while still maintained the philosophy of the past CEO and founder, Sam Walton. At least during his tenure as WalMart CEO, this company has good numbers and a more favorable image to the public, being more humane, environemtnally friendly and making a positive impact to the public. That is a difficulty ethics to maintain and keep up with while at the same time keeping the cost lower and improving the efficiency.
The selection of Lee Scott and his successor (Mike Duke) are so typical American style. Both are from internal. Mike Duke was from the little-known (then) WalMart International (and now accounts for signiifcant position in the company with the booming of the non-US business that WalMart owns). Jack Welch once said, if you wanted to make this position important, put your star employee there and give him/her a lot of exposure. I guess (without checking the background) that waas what Lee Scott has done. I believe it must be successful, as now that Mike Duke is the new CEO.
As for the retail industry in general, the future is as difficult to read as the economy itself. However, people still need shopping. The basics of life make people fullfilled, if not happy. Wish the new CEO best of luck and the new WalMart kept up with the future. January 21 Important dayYesterday was an important day, Barack Obama is now the President of the United States.
哈,who 比who强啊?
January 07 LayoffNov的unemployment stats was bad, but Dec is by no means better. Whenever check the news like that, I do not get any comfort. However, if there is a slice of truth, I have to say, there is just way too many people on the jobs.
People are just happy with where they are,为啥要去拆穿呢。 January 05 Capitalism in KOf course I did not invent it. In German Capitalism does start with a "K". The title comes from the recent businessweek.
今天是上班第一天,节奏很慢,虽然经济衰退对我们这样的公司暂时还没有影响,可是听到人说, as long as...does not go down..just give me a job, I can do anything..
The future of captalism is here...not any of us expected. We cannot move on and leave the problems behind. 我虽然还是一个彻头彻尾的市场主义者,可是也不得不悲哀的承认,the market may cure everything, but only in the long run...however in the long term, we are all dead
With breathtaking speed, with the breakdown of credit markets, governments around the world began nationalizing financial systems and considering bailouts of other troubled industries, (if you are following up with the numbers, we have accumulated more than 1 trillian dollars - $100 mm for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac each, AIG had $150mm (including the year-end bonus for the so-called talents), and the famous 700 mm bail out package..effect? invisable yet) and major independent US investment banks all in a sudden disappeared or became bank holding companies (even including GMAC, which is floating away from the original purpose when it was set up). Meanwhile, currency values, as well as oil and other commodity prices, lurched wildly, while housing prices anywhere, and everywhere continued to slide. Trust is nowhere to find - we know Madoff scandal, but who knows if there are more to come. Obma said today that he planned to have $300 mm tax cut, and more government spending, but who pays for that?
November 05 President ObamaNo surprise, he won.
All the TV channels last night was about the vote results. (I could not even watch my House). Although we knew he would win, when seeing 207:135 (Obama:Mccain), I was still disappointed. Everyone knows that Obama is an in, while the rest is an out. What I want? Even when the new channel reported college towns such as...South Bend...is now Blue! I was still surprised...then we turned off TV, I know I have more things to worry about that the result of this game.
Another four years to go!!! October 22 新近偶像-Rachel MaddowMore and more women are now the anchors of the major news channel. Well - still very few. The most recent one is extremely attractive - and she is actually hosting a political news for MSNBC. She is sharp, smart, charming, calm, fearless, handsome (hmmm, not pretty), refreshing, with a great sense of humor...and she is a lesbian. The last one is least important, but otherwise I would not find out her name.
mba当年的case比如挑战比自己职位高能力高的人,比如如何 sell idea get fund,比如怎样多快好省的make decisions with a consenus and move on,同样多快好省的不断有ideas bouncing idea collection and testing,如何和我的老板们打太极拳从politics中找到我想知道的东西,manage ad agency(without too much mkt experience), bridge the disconnect between internal & external, prioritize(虽然这个不算新课题,但是以前我做的是自己优化自己的工作,现在是如何优化舍弃他人视如珍宝的冬冬,为难啊),how to lead people whose titles are higher than me and how to lead without authority(这个也不是新话题,只是和人有关的东西就是麻烦),delegate responsibility and learn to motivate people, how to implement strategy and tactics(后者尤其讨厌,我更加理解很多brand team为啥把很多事情完全做成project management, instead of doing something themselves)。。。哗,貌似自我被挑战的东西很多阿,而且我还只是说某个项目而已,我还有daily job要做,我不见得喜欢,但逼上梁山不做不行,而我完全是开放态度,understanding if I can do it well it will be extermely valuable lessons for myself, and of course if I do it successfully it will be valuable to others(虽然后者我不算最care), 作为资本主义螺丝钉一枚,who knows who will get the benefits at the end。
苦闷,肯定是有的,ups and downs, constantly,挑战个人assertiveness and confidence?absolutely, touch calls? all the time...
我只希望looking back, I will laugh。 September 14 unusual weekend1) Lehman brothers liquidation possibility

As human beings, only by observing other's pain can we see ourselves fortunate... August 13 Chinese women gymnatics teamThis group did such a a phenomenal job!!!
Always do better and never give up! August 10 Barack Obama: The Audacity of Hope中国这次主场作战可是一鼓作气,so far已经有6块金牌。
some feelings about the games and the recent Russian attack to Georgia.
1) olympics is about sports, but it is also about nationality. We know we want sports to be higher than politics, however, sports is still national
2) China is a country where individual is impressive, while if in uniformity, we are formidable
我所有认识的美国人都和我强调他们的regional difference, which I agree,想要设立一个one size fits all的regulations, 我深表怀疑。 Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem。 While preception is not necessarily THE reality, perception is reality in people's mind.
下面来说具体的topics and solutions what Obama proposed:
solution: invest on education。
教师的qualification低,教师不是performance-based pay,最好的数学和物理老师不是在教中学而是去了wall street,固然是wall street薪水诱人,却也是教师工会(those who are part of the demoncrats)反对performance pay,反对对不同的教职不同薪水造成的。
他也不能不承认他是精英,“after all, we went to the same school, we read the same books“,他明明知道别人在说啥做啥,那为啥他不能代表和他一样的人呢?
周五obama继续说我们要finance教育,finance healthcare, npr的主持人问那how do we pay for it? I think those economics stimuli will pay for itself。
so what is this brand standing for?
pollution
human rights
free tibet
oppression
controversy
boycott
。。。
July 24 Why I cannot relate myself to ObamaHere are why I cannot relate myself to Obama (or democrats):
1) A country's future CANNOT be decided by those who are most undereducated, most poor, while at the same time most cautious of using politics to their own advantages, the people that Obama represents and attracts.
2) As the same time, another group that Obama attracts are young and less experienced people who still holds an idealistic future. Obama made those believe that he is one of them too, but I cannot help not telling those people that Obama is NOT an idealist BUT a politician. He climbed his way from the poor suburb Chicago via the connections of his wife and his pastor. Here is a NPR interview of a responsible journalist who did a lot of homework on what Obama is about:
The New Yorker article is here:
3) I do not want to pay my tax for those people who rely on social benefits and CLAIM they cannot work. Shame on Obama, these are the people that you represent:
June 01 Peacock at homeJust a moment ago, a pair of beautiful peacock appeared in the parking lot...cannot believe it, we called the police and they refused to take care of them, so we have to rely on the pair to take care of themselves. As always, the appearance of the wild animals are good topics to catch people off guard, we met a couple of neighbours (Lisa, Scott, Medeline), although we will move out in a couple of weeks due to the lease hike!
WE have seen a lot of wide animals since we came to the US, but it is the first time that we saw peacock at home!
Time: 7:55pm EST
Location: Chatham, NJ
The pics are a bit vague, as I was afraid of using flash may blind the poor birds, and yes they are still birds, one of them can still fly.
Keep safe poor peacock! (& did u know that the female peacock is actually called peahen
Also some pics from the last hiking trip.
